A Godly Mom

A Godly Mom

On this unique Mother’s Day we celebrate godly women.

So Peninnah would taunt Hannah and make fun of her because the Lord had kept her from having children. Year after year it was the same—Peninnah would taunt Hannah as they went to the Tabernacle. Each time, Hannah would be reduced to tears and would not even eat. 1 Samuel 1:6-7

Yes, and everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution. 2 Timothy 3:12

Rejoice, O childless woman, you who have never given birth! Break into a joyful shout, you who have never been in labor! For the desolate woman now has more children than the woman who lives with her husband! Galatians 4:27

Three different times I begged the Lord to take it away. Each time he said, “My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.” So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me. That’s why I take pleasure in my weaknesses, and in the insults, hardships, persecutions, and troubles that I suffer for Christ. For when I am weak, then I am strong. 2 Corinthians 12:8-10

Then she went back and began to eat again, and she was no longer sad. 1 Samuel 1:18

Not that I was ever in need, for I have learned how to be content with whatever I have. I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little. For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength. Philippians 4:11-14

Who may worship in your sanctuary, Lord? Who may enter your presence on your holy hill? …Those who… keep their promises even when it hurts. Psalm 15:1;4

“My heart rejoices in the Lord! The Lord has made me strong. Now I have an answer for my enemies; I rejoice because you rescued me. No one is holy like the Lord! There is no one besides you; there is no Rock like our God. 1 Samuel 2:1-2

Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus. 1 Thessalonians 5:18

In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. 1 Thessalonians 5:18  (KJV)

    Thank you pastor,
I was struck by the fact that Hannah was able to eat again after she put her troubles into the Lord’s hands.
I was reminded of a few other times in scripture when people were fed after great physical or emotional trials (i.e., Elijah, Jairus’ Daughter, Peter & disciples who went back to fishing).
One can easily feel discouraged (or even dead inside) and lose their appetite for natural food.
In the same way, depression & discouragement can squelch our appetite for spiritual food as well.
When we put our trust in the Lord, we may just start to get hungry again… God’s Word may start to look like an inviting feast again… we may just get up (out of our fears and doubts ) and enjoy eating (His Word) again!
