Jesus Light Of The World – 3 This Little Light Of Mine

Jesse Loew brings us a message of encouragement as we continue with week three of our series, Jesus Light Of The World.

19 This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. 20 Everyone who does evil hates the light and will not come into the light for fear that their deeds will be exposed. 21 But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what they have done has been done in the sight of God.  John 3:19-21 NLT

Far too many Christians have only a convenient relationship with God, instead of a committed one. God is only for their convenience. The devil will try find a way to make it more convenient to live in the darkness. As Christians, our lives can’t be lived on term of convenience!

When I look at this scripture It makes me think of how the Devil is constantly trying to find ways to get us to live in the darkness. “Let’s not talk about my sins. Its easier to hold on to my pride, and hide, than to allow God to use this to grow me and others”. “It’ll be easier if I just don’t say anything”. When we try to put up the façade that we’re not falling short of the glory of God, we’re only fooling ourselves and doing God a disservice. And the Devil will use it to cast shade! He will use it create doubt in you. He will use it to make you feel unworthy. He will make your efforts for God seem unnecessary or futile.

We are all sinners who feel and think and do things that aren’t aligned with the infinite worth and beauty of God. That’s what sin is. We dishonor him every day by falling short of loving him with all our heart and soul and mind and strength. And it makes us angry, or sometimes frightened, or both, if this sinfulness begins to get dragged out into the light. It begins to look as horrible as it really is in relation to Jesus. Real corruption is a very painful thing.

But when Christ, who is the light of the world, begins to shine on a person’s life, it will either break him and lead him to repentance and faith, or drive him further into the darkness. Because it is simply intolerable when our sinful works and thoughts and feelings are forced out into the light of Christ. Sin is so ugly and so monstrous and so hideous that it must surround itself with darkness. It must live in illusion and deceit. It hates the light and loves the darkness and will not come to the light. The Light of the World has the power to change this.

This is why it’s our responsibility as Christians let our light shine! We can’t allow the inconveniences of life to take away from or distract us from our calling! When the going gets tough, we have the reassurance that God is with us.
