Today we are in the Book of James where we are reminded that when making plans for the future we need to make God a part of our plans. We don’t know what the future holds and we cannot ever be certain of what will become of our plans. Going through times like these can be a good reminder that no matter what plans we make they may be changed in an instant by circumstances beyond our control. Instead our attitude should be, If the Lord wants us to then we will do it.
- Planning Without God.
Look here, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we are going to a certain town and will stay there a year. We will do business there and make a profit.” James 4:13
2. Presuming To Know The Future.
How do you know what your life will be like tomorrow? Your life is like the morning fog—it’s here a little while, then it’s gone. James 4:14
Don’t brag about tomorrow, since you don’t know what the day will bring. Proverbs 27:1
“But God said to him, ‘You fool! You will die this very night. Then who will get everything you worked for?’ “Yes, a person is a fool to store up earthly wealth but not have a rich relationship with God.” Luke 12:20-21
3. Putting Off Until Tomorrow.
What you ought to say is, “If the Lord wants us to, we will live and do this or that.” Otherwise you are boasting about your own plans, and all such boasting is evil. Remember, it is sin to know what you ought to do and then not do it. James 4:15-17
