He would be killed, but three days later he would rise from the dead.&nbsp;32&nbsp;As he talked about this openly with his disciples, Peter took him aside and began to reprimand him for saying such things. 33&nbsp;Jesus turned around and looked at his disciples, then reprimanded Peter.&nbsp;\u201cGet away from me, Satan!\u201d&nbsp;he said.&nbsp;\u201cYou are seeing things merely from a human point of view, not from God\u2019s.\u201d 34&nbsp;Then, calling the crowd to join his disciples, he said,&nbsp;\u201cIf any of you wants to be my follower, you must give up your own way, take up your cross, and follow me.&nbsp;35&nbsp;If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake and for the sake of the Good News, you will save it<\/em>. Mark 8:31-35<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-heading\"><strong>1. People Can Endure A Lot\u2026 If They Understand The Purpose<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-heading\"><em><strong>\u201cThose who have a &#8216;why&#8217; to live, can bear with almost any &#8216;how&#8217;.\u201d&nbsp;<\/strong> <\/em><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<h6 class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-heading\">\u2015 Viktor E. Frankl, Man&#8217;s Search for Meaning<\/h6>\n\n\n\n<p><em>&nbsp;\u201cSimon, Simon, Satan has asked to sift each of you like wheat.&nbsp;32&nbsp;But I have pleaded in prayer for you, Simon, that your faith should not fail. So when you have repented and turned to me again, strengthen your brothers.\u201d<\/em>&nbsp;&nbsp; Luke 22:31-32&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-heading\"><strong>2. Sometimes the preparation we need to accomplish God\u2019s purpose comes packaged as pain.<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><em>But Peter took him aside and began to reprimand him[k] for saying such things. \u201cHeaven forbid, Lord,\u201d he said. \u201cThis will never happen to you!\u201d 23 Jesus turned to Peter and said, \u201cGet away from me, Satan! You are a dangerous trap to me. You are seeing things merely from a human point of view, not from God\u2019s.\u201d&nbsp; <\/em>Matthew 16:22-23<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Then he returned to the disciples and found them asleep. He said to Peter,&nbsp;\u201cCouldn\u2019t you watch with me even one hour?&nbsp;41&nbsp;Keep watch and pray, so that you will not give in to temptation. For the spirit is willing, but the body is weak!\u201d 42&nbsp;Then Jesus left them a second time and prayed,&nbsp;\u201cMy Father! If this cup cannot be taken away&nbsp;unless I drink it, your will be done.\u201d&nbsp;43&nbsp;When he returned to them again, he found them sleeping, for they couldn\u2019t keep their eyes open.&nbsp;&nbsp; <\/em>Matthew 26:40-42<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>At that moment the Lord turned and looked at Peter. Suddenly, the Lord\u2019s words flashed through Peter\u2019s mind:&nbsp;\u201cBefore the rooster crows tomorrow morning, you will deny three times that you even know me.\u201d&nbsp;62&nbsp;And Peter left the courtyard, weeping bitterly.&nbsp; <\/em>Luke 22:61-62<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-heading\"><strong>3. Don\u2019t Look At Life From The Perspective Of Pain, Look At Pain From The Perspective Of Purpose<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><em>And we know that God causes everything to work together&nbsp;for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.&nbsp;29&nbsp;For God knew his people in advance, and he chose them to become like his Son, so that his Son would be the firstborn&nbsp;among many brothers and sisters.<\/em>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Romans 8:28-29<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>2&nbsp;Dear brothers and sisters,&nbsp;when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy.&nbsp;3&nbsp;For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow.&nbsp;4&nbsp;So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing.<\/em>&nbsp;&nbsp; James 1:2-4<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-heading\"><strong><em>There is a Purpose!<\/em><\/strong><\/h2>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Then Jesus began to tell them that the Son of Man&nbsp;must suffer many terrible things and be rejected by the elders, the leading priests, and the teachers of religious law.
