The 11th Annual Grapeland Egg-Stravaganza was planned as a “rain or shine” event—and this year, we were reminded what that really means.
With storms in the forecast and steady rain throughout the day, it would have been easy to assume attendance might be low. Instead, approximately 300 people came out and gathered under the covered pavilion at Grapeland City Park. What could have been a difficult day turned into a meaningful one for families across our community.
A dedicated group of volunteers arrived early Saturday morning to prepare and adjust for the weather, moving activities under the pavilion so everything could continue as planned. While the rain prevented us from hosting the Walk Through The Resurrection this year, the message at the heart of that experience was still shared. Local pastors took turns telling the story of the resurrection, and prayer was available throughout the event for anyone with needs or concerns.
Children were welcomed with bubble wands, games, and face painting, and thousands of candy-filled eggs were distributed by hand. The snow cone bus remained a popular stop despite the weather, and families were able to enjoy time together throughout the afternoon. The event began with an opening prayer and a greeting from the mayor of Grapeland, followed by a time of singing, and concluded with prize drawings for the kids and the final drawing for the television.
While the rain changed the format of the day, it did not diminish the purpose. The Egg-Stravaganza continues to be about more than an egg hunt—it is an opportunity to serve our community, come together, and share the message of hope found in the resurrection.
We are grateful for the many people and organizations who made this event possible. Thank you to our volunteers, participating churches, sponsors, and the City of Grapeland for their continued support. A special thank you goes to the Grapeland Noon Lions, who directed parking in the rain and helped ensure the event ran smoothly.
We are already looking forward to the 12th Annual Grapeland Egg-Stravaganza in 2027, scheduled for the Saturday before Easter. We look forward to gathering again and continuing this tradition in our community.
