Spiritual Sacrifices

Spiritual Sacrifices

When we hear the word sacrifice, we often think of something painful or costly — and in many ways, that’s exactly what it is. But in the New Testament, God calls us to something even greater than the offerings of the Old Testament: to become living sacrifices.

This message explores what that looks like in everyday life. Through Scripture, we see six ways we can offer spiritual sacrifices that please God — through our bodies, our love, our faith, our generosity, our praise, and our good works. Each one reminds us that true worship isn’t confined to an altar or a Sunday service; it’s the daily offering of ourselves to God in everything we do.

The Sacrifice Of Your Body

And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him.  Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.  Romans 12:1-2

The Sacrifice Of Love

Live a life filled with love, following the example of Christ. He loved usand offered himself as a sacrifice for us, a pleasing aroma to God.  Ephesians 5:2

The Sacrifice Of Faith

But even if I am being poured out like a drink offering on the sacrifice and service coming from your faith, I am glad and rejoice with all of you.  Philippians 2:17

The Sacrifice Of Generosity

At the moment I have all I need—and more! I am generously supplied with the gifts you sent me with Epaphroditus. They are a sweet-smelling sacrifice that is acceptable and pleasing to God.  Philippians 4:18

The Sacrifice Of Praise

Therefore, let us offer through Jesus a continual sacrifice of praise to God, proclaiming our allegiance to his name.  Hebrews 13:15

The Sacrifice Of Good Works

And don’t forget to do good and to share with those in need. These are the sacrifices that please God.  Hebrews 13:16
