With the theme “The Light Still Shines,” Light On A Hill Church gathered on Sunday, July 12, to celebrate 25 years since the founding of the church and 20 years in our current building in Grapeland.
Around 50 people attended the anniversary service, including many current members as well as friends and former members who have been part of the church family over the years. It was a wonderful time of worship, remembering, and celebrating God’s faithfulness through the years.
The theme, “The Light Still Shines,” was a fitting reminder that the mission and vision God placed in the hearts of the church’s founders 25 years ago is still shining brightly today. The name Light On A Hill Church comes from Matthew 5:14, where Jesus said, “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden.” For 25 years, our desire has been to be a light in our community and beyond.
Associate Pastor Jesse Loew recognized our founding members and presented them with custom prayer journals personalized with their names and inscribed with “Founding Member, Light On A Hill Church” along with the church logo. Founding members Ronnie and Mary Jordan, along with Pastor Tommy and Donna Sprinkle, were honored for their faithfulness and commitment to the vision God placed in their hearts many years ago.
Pastor Jesse also shared personally about the impact Light On A Hill Church has had on his own life and family over the years.
Pastor Tommy read a word that had been given at the dedication of our current building 20 years ago. One part of that word has proven true time and time again: that the church would not be measured by the size of its membership, but by the lives impacted through its outreach.
Over the years, Light On A Hill has been blessed to serve our community in many ways. The church has provided school supplies for local elementary students in grades 2 through 4 for many years and is once again preparing to help families as the new school year approaches. The church also continues to organize community-wide food collections for local families at Thanksgiving and Christmas and diaper drives to support Graceful Beginnings.
Throughout the years, Light On A Hill has also supported a number of local and foreign ministries, something that has been part of the church’s heart since the beginning and continues today. The church currently hosts a Community Ladies Bible Study on the first Tuesday of each month.
Past ministries have included The CR8 community teen center, community-wide teen rallies, and opening the church as a disaster relief shelter for those affected by the 2005 hurricane.
Looking back over the years, it is easy to see that the words spoken at the dedication of our current building have proven true: the church has not been measured by the size of its membership, but by the lives impacted through its outreach.
Founding member Ronnie Jordan brought the anniversary message from the book of Joshua, where the people of Israel crossed into the Promised Land and established a memorial to remember what God had done for them. He reminded us that anniversaries and memorials are important because they help us remember the faithfulness of God and give us confidence for the future.
Following the service, a slideshow of photos from the past 25 years played as everyone enjoyed looking back at the many memories and faces that have been part of the church’s story.
Almost everyone stayed for the fellowship meal that followed. The church family enjoyed pulled pork sandwiches, cole slaw, beans, and a beautiful anniversary cake while spending time visiting, sharing memories, and reconnecting with friends from years gone by.
As we celebrate what God has done over the past 25 years, we are also looking ahead with excitement and expectation for what He has in store for the future. The light that God lit through this church 25 years ago is still shining today, and we look forward to seeing where He leads Light On A Hill Church in the years to come.
