There are many different idea about what church leadership should look like. The Bible gives us a clear description – Shepherds and Servants.
1 Shepherds – Powerful In The Word
He chose his servant David, calling him from the sheep pens. He took David from tending the ewes and lambs and made him the shepherd of Jacob’s descendants— God’s own people, Israel. He cared for them with a true heart and led them with skillful hands. Psalm 78:70-72
Proclaim
…feed my sheep. John 21:7
Pray
Then we apostles can spend our time in prayer and teaching the word. Acts 6:4
As for me, I will certainly not sin against the Lord by ending my prayers for you… 1 Samuel 12:23
Protect
So guard yourselves and God’s people. Feed and shepherd God’s flock—his church, purchased with his own blood—over which the Holy Spirit has appointed you as leaders. Acts 20:28
Prepare
Now these are the gifts Christ gave to the church: the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, and the pastors and teachers. Their responsibility is to equip God’s people to do his work and build up the church, the body of Christ. Ephesians 4:11-12
2 Servants – Powerful In Deed, Displaying Mercy
Direct
