Give Thanks

Give Thanks

As the Thanksgiving season approaches, it is timely to reflect on the essence of gratitude and its significance, drawing insights from the teachings found in God’s Word. Authentic happiness exceeds life’s circumstances and is rooted in faith in a risen Savior.

There are several pitfalls associated with a mindset fixated on wealth and the erroneous belief that material possessions are a source of lasting happiness. Instead, we look at seven promises derived from God’s Word that provide comfort and strength during trying times. These promises encompass salvation, adoption into God’s family, forgiveness, the enduring presence and love of God, rest for the weary, and the assurance of a glorious inheritance. True happiness stems from trusting in God’s sovereignty rather than relentlessly pursuing worldly desires.

In Philippians Chapter 3, the Apostle Paul pronounces his perspective on genuine happiness. His focus on knowing Christ and striving toward the divine goal serves as a reminder of the fulfillment found in spiritual pursuits.

Not that I was ever in need, for I have learned how to be content with whatever I have. I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little. For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.   Philippians 4:10-13

The Enemy Wants Steal Our Joy!

The Wealth Trap

The Poor Trap

Do not love this world nor the things it offers you, for when you love the world, you do not have the love of the Father in you. For the world offers only a craving for physical pleasure, a craving for everything we see, and pride in our achievements and possessions. These are not from the Father, but are from this world. And this world is fading away, along with everything that people crave. But anyone who does what pleases God will live forever.   1 John 2:15-17

All of this is for your benefit. And as God’s grace reaches more and more people, there will be great thanksgiving, and God will receive more and more glory. That is why we never give up. Though our bodies are dying, our spirits are being renewed every day. For our present troubles are small and won’t last very long. Yet they produce for us a glory that vastly outweighs them and will last forever! So we don’t look at the troubles we can see now; rather, we fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen. For the things we see now will soon be gone, but the things we cannot see will last forever.   2 Corinthians 4:15-18

But God’s Word is Full of Promises!

Promise #1- Promise of Salvation

For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.   John 3:16 (NIV)

Promise #2- Promise to be Adopted as God’s Children

But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God.    John 1:12

Promise #3- Promise of Forgiveness

If we claim we have no sin, we are only fooling ourselves and not living in the truth. But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness.   1 John 1:8-9

Promise #4- Promise of God’s Continual Presence

Don’t love money; be satisfied with what you have. For God has said, “I will never fail you. I will never abandon you.”   Hebrews 13:5

Promise #5- Promise of God’s Continual Love

No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us. And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.   Romans 8:37-39

Promise #6- Promise of Rest for the Weary

Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls.   Matthew 11:28-29

Promise #7- Promise of a Glorious Inheritance

I pray that your hearts will be flooded with light so that you can understand the confident hope he has given to those he called—his holy people who are his rich and glorious inheritance. I also pray that you will understand the incredible greatness of God’s power for us who believe him. This is the same mighty power.   Ephesians 1:18-19
