Sometimes there is confusion surrounding how people were saved in Old Testament times as compared to New Testament times. At first look it can almost appear that there was one method of salvation in the Old Testament and a different one after the death of Christ.
This week we look at how Jesus always was and always will be the only way of receiving the gift of eternal life.
Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me. John 14:6
The sacrifices under [the Law] were repeated again and again, year after year, but they were never able to provide perfect cleansing for those who came to worship. For it is not possible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins. Hebrews 10:1;4
Look! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world! John 1:29
But—When God our Savior revealed his kindness and love, he saved us, not because of the righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. Titus 3:4-5
God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Ephesians 2:8
For the Scriptures tell us, “Abraham believed God, and God counted him as righteous because of his faith.” When people work, their wages are not a gift, but something they have earned. But people are counted as righteous, not because of their work, but because of their faith in God who forgives sinners. Romans 4:3-5
They know the truth about God because he has made it obvious to them. For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse for not knowing God. Romans 1:19-20
God overlooked people’s ignorance about these things in earlier times, but now he commands everyone everywhere to repent of their sins and turn to him. Acts 17:30
