We’re a few days into the New Year and if you’re anything like me, I’m glad to see 2020 in the rear view. It brought some unique challenges that I haven’t had to navigate in my lifetime, and most people alive haven’t had to deal with either. But through all the craziness we still have one thing to see us through. Gods Word.
There are some things that we, as believers, can and should leave behind since we have this fresh start. There are also some things that we need to make sure we are bringing with us into this new year. That is what we’re going to explore this morning.
No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us. Philippians 3:13-14 NLT
We can’t let our past keep us from what God is calling us to do Today.
We must run the race that GOD set out for us.
Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth. Colossians 3:2 NLT
You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness. Ephesians 4:22-24 NLT
We have to allow God to make us New!
“Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland. Isaiah 43:18-19 NIV
I know that our instinct is to often run back to what is familiar, but is that what’s best- what God wants? Or maybe you are stuck between where you are now and where you want to be- change is tough, but we can get through it with the Lord directing us.
Letting go of things can be hard! And It’s so easy to hold on to things, but we must trust God for something better.

Philippians 3:14
“I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.”
The Goal: “The high calling of God”
The Plan of Action: Focus on the high calling alone and keep pressing toward it.
God’s Promise: “…if in any thing ye be otherwise minded, God shall reveal even this unto you.” Philippians 3:15
Yes Lord, keep us pressing toward your goal!
Amen
