The Balance Of God

The Balance Of God

When people only look at one aspect of God they get a distorted image of who He really is. To better understand God we need to understand how God’s justice is balanced against God’s mercy.

He is the Rock, his works are perfect, and all his ways are just. A faithful God who does no wrong, upright and just is he.    Deuteronomy 32:4

Woe to those who make unjust laws, to those who issue oppressive decrees, to deprive the poor of their rights and withhold justice from the oppressed of my people, making widows their prey and robbing the fatherless. The faithful love of the Lord never ends! His mercies never cease. 23 Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning.   Lamentations 3:22-23

But God is so rich in mercy, and he loved us so much, that even though we were dead because of our sins, he gave us life when he raised Christ from the dead. (It is only by God’s grace that you have been saved!)   Ephesians 2:4-5

God blesses those who are merciful, for they will be shown mercy.    Matthew 5:7

Are we saying, then, that God was unfair? Of course not! For God said to Moses, “I will show mercy to anyone I choose, and I will show compassion to anyone I choose.”   Romans 9:14-15

“My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the Lord. “And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine.   Isaiah 55:8
